Year 8 Guided Pathways Evening- Thursday January 10th

At Kirk Balk Academy, we believe all students should have the opportunity to attain excellent qualifications which will enable them to enhance their life chances, realise their dreams and achieve their ambitions. As such I am delighted to welcome you to attend our Year 8 Pathways Evening at NET Kirk Balk Academy on Thursday 10th January.

The Year 8 Pathways process is the method which determines the qualifications students will study during Years 9, 10 and 11.

I am also pleased to be able to share with you our Guided Pathways booklet and your child's Guided Pathways preference form. It is important to note that your child's form may look slightly different to that of their friends. We tailor our curriculum to meet the needs of each individual by creating a bespoke pathway suitable to your child which also allows a freedom of choice for all students. Please read your child's preference form carefully and if any of the instructions are unclear, do not hesitate to contact us.

A number of statutory core qualifications have been pre-selected for all students to study, these include Mathematics, English Language, English Literature, Science and PE. Some qualifications are only available to students who are currently achieving expected progress, or where a student has achieved a certain standard. Please note that some courses may not form if there is not a high enough demand for the subject.

During the Pathways Evening, there will be a presentation that explains the Pathways process and details what students need to do in order to access the appropriate qualifications. The presentation will be held in the Main Hall and repeated throughout the evening at 4.45pm, 5.45pm and 6.45pm. You only need to attend the presentation once and you do not need to notify us beforehand of which time you intend to attend.

On the Evening myself and other members of the Senior Leadership Team will be available to answer any queries that you may have. The evening will also be followed by a number of drop-ins dates during which staff will be available to discuss Pathways issues without the need for a prior appointment.
