Kirk Balk Academy students take a BBC Bitesize Tour

Kirk Balk Academy were proud to host the BBC Bitesize Creative Industries Tour during National Careers Week.

All year eight and year nine students attended this fantastic opportunity to hear from local creative industry professionals. Hosted by Jonny Nelson, a presenter on CBBC Saturday Mash-up, he led a fun and informative session alongside three panellists, Dan Rose, Founder and Creative Director Awesome, Jo Peel, Sheffield artist and Rhia Mackenzie, PMA BBC Childrens.

The presenter and panellists shared their experiences, the education pathway they followed and how they became successful in their careers. The key message of the day that resonated with our students was that it takes hard work, determination and resilience to achieve your goals and it is important to always aspire to do great things.

Speaking to Jonny after the session, one student said, "thank you, you have inspired me to think more about what I want to do in the future and that pathways that are open to me to do this."

Kirk Balk Academy students impressed the BBC production team with how attentive and keen they were to the whole experience. Comments on the day included: "we have been touring since January and that has to be the most hands up to ask the panellists questions we've had so far". Needless to say, we are incredibly proud of our students for their impeccable behaviour and for giving the BBC a warm and friendly welcome.
