May Half Term: Important Information
As we approach half term I thought it would be timely to update and remind you about several important things:
Timetable 'Roll-Up' from the 1st July 2019
From the 1st July students will have rolled-up to the next academic year before we break up for the Summer.
We do this each year and this is to ensure that we maximise the learning and curriculum time as we look to continue to support all our students to achieve their full potential.
Therefore, from the 1st July, the current Year 10 students will be treated as our new Year 11 students from this date. The current Year 9 students will be treated as our new Year 10 students also; and so on.
Lunch and Break - Arrangements to be in Place from 1st July 2019
Staff feedback, informal conversations with lots of students and very few concerns expressed by parents following our initial letter have meant that we have decided to split lunch and break times. The changes will be implemented from 1st July when we formally roll-up our timetable.
Lunchtime will continue to be for 30 minutes, but split across our Period 4 so students can have lunches at different times. This will ensure students have even less time to queue and will be able to sit and eat at tables for the whole session. The arrangement will also allow our new Year 7 students to have lunch together, without other year groups; something they find very helpful particularly in the early months of joining the school.
Please therefore note that our new Year 8 and new Year 10 students will eat together first at 12.00pm until 12.30pm.
Our new Year 7 students, when they join is in September, will eat together as a year group and on their own from 12.30pm until 1.00pm.
Finally, our new Year 9 and new Year 11 students will eat together in the final sitting from 1.00pm-1.30pm.
Break time will be split by house and will tie in with our current Vertical Mentoring Group (VMG) arrangements. Two of our houses will have break whilst the others attend VMG and then visa-versa. Please note that every student will have access to a break time and a lunch sitting every day.
To be clear, all other timings and structures to the academy day will remain the same. Details about these continue to be available on our website.
SLT Drop-in on Monday 10th June 2019
Parents and carers are encouraged to take advantage of our next SLT Drop-in afternoon on Monday 10h June 2019 from 4:00pm until 6:00pm. On this afternoon, I am making the entire Senior Team, along with some of our Governors, available for informal chats about any issues that may be important to you.
It is important to us that you feel that a conduit exists between home and the academy. Please report to main reception and a member of the team will be happy to speak to you. Please note that whilst you do not need to make an appointment, you are welcome to contact us in advance to request to speak to a particular senior colleague.
